I’ve always loved art and making, but life took me in very different directions. I come from what would now be termed ‘a very disadvantaged’ background but, being academically able, was discouraged from doing what I loved: art. I qualified as a translator/interpreter, then, finding a more purposeful/elemental passion when I had my own children (combining the privilege of my education and my experience growing up) I worked for nearly 40 years in Community/Youth Work, Adult and Community/Family Learning in Leicester, Bristol and Plymouth and Consultant/Facilitator/Trainer in Children’s Services.
Eventually I was so lucky to have the chance follow my dream in my 50s and take a BA in Fine Art (part-time – I was still working a lot …) Arts University Plymouth was a great place to study: fabulous facilities and some great teaching.
I worked for 4 years at KARST – a Contemporary Visual Arts Space in Plymouth as Coordinator (with responsibility also for engagement) – a great and valuable experience. Visit if you can …
